Some Definitions:
App - Application software, also known as an application or an "app", is computer software designed to help the user to perform singular or multiple related specific tasks.
API - An application programming interface (API) is a particular set of rules and specifications that a software program can follow to access and make use of the services and resources provided by another particular software program that implements that API. It serves as an interface between different software programs and facilitates their interaction, similar to the way the user interface facilitates interaction between humans and computers.
API's are the interface that allow Apps to work on different devices and platforms.
Social Media Dashboard - Managing Multiple Streams & Monitoring using Apps on Your Computer, Phone or Tablet.
There are many Apps that allow you to manage multiple social and information streams and monitor multple conversations.
2. Try each of the 6 Apps. listed below on your Computer, Phone and/or Tablet.
Use the class Hashtag #NewhouseSM6 to test the different dashboards.
From those that allow, post a Tweet and @reply using each of these different platforms.

3. Create A New Blog Post - Create a 150-word (minimum) to 300-word (maximum) post. Post a new blog post regarding your experience with each of the different Social Media Dashboards from #2 and write a review of the different Apps. What are the features on each that you like? What are the features that you don't like? Which one do you plan on using / not using? Why? or Why Not? Did you try it on your phone? How does the phone App compare to the Computer App?
Note: Use Your Categories - NewhouseSM6 and Topic of the Week and Social Media. Use these categories with your new post. You can add other new categories if you like.
Note: Use your marketing terms. Spelling, grammar, and punctuation count. Spell check and proofread.
Note: Your Blog post headline should be something to get people interested in reading your post, not the class name or name of the assignment. Think about the headlines that get your interest.
Note: Be sure to add an image to your blog post and a minimum of (3) three hyper-links.
- Send Direct Message to on Twitter with a link to your finished post on your blog on your Twitter Chat review.
- Tweet - Post a Tweet with a link promoting your blog post. Include the #NewhouseSM6 Hashtag in your Tweet.
- Retweet - RT a classmates Tweet promoting their blog post.
- Reply - @reply - to a different classmate thanking them for sharing their blog post. Include the #NewhouseSM6 Hashtag in your Tweet.
- Comment - Leave a comment on a different classmates blog post. Add a positive comment, a suggestion for improvement, and ask a question.
4.Note: Over the course of this week (Wed, Sept. 21 through Tuesday, Sept. 27) send at least 20 tweets. Note - You cannot accrue the 20 tweets at one time, on one day. They must be spread out over 4-7 days with a maximum of 5 per day counting towards your total. (Ex - 3 tweets per day x 7 = 21 or 4 tweets per day x 5 = 20)
The objective of this assignment is to engage with others on Twitter, not simply announce. Your Twitter Chat and Blog Post assignment can count towards your total. Your 20 Tweets over 4-7 days may also include the items outlined below.
- Find & Follow - Use Twitter Advanced search to Find and follow four other communication pros on Twitter related to the ideas we are discussing in class and follow them.
- Create a new list or add them to your existing "Social Media Pro" list - Add the 4 interesting people that you followed to your list or create a new list and add them.
- Tweet - Post a Tweet to the class recomending they follow these 4 people and explain why. Include the #NewhouseSM6 Hashtag in your Tweet and the individual Twitter usderids with the @symbol. (You cannot use the same 4 people as other students)
- Tweet/Link - Post a Tweet with a link to a marketing article, video, or blog related to any of the ideas / concepts / and terms from class (You must use the Link Shortener and cannot post the same item as another student.) Include the #NewhouseSM6 Hashtag in your Tweet.
- DM - Direct Message one of the marketing pros that you follow and who follows you back with a ? related to the any of things we are discussing in class.
- Reply - @reply - to a different marketing pro that you follow and who follows you and thank them for something that they shared that you find interesting. Tell them why? Include the #NewhouseSM6 Hashtag in your Tweet.
- Over the course of the week Respond (Reply) to your classmates' tweets. You may not accrue all of your responses at one time. They must be spread out over 4-7 days with a maximum of 2 per day counting toward your total.
- RT - Retweet one of the posts from a different Marketing Pro that you follow that you found interesting. Be sure to Twitter userid with the @symbol to give them credit. Include the #NewhouseSM4 Hashtag in your Tweet.
- DM - Direct Message @DR4WARD when you complete the weekly "To Do" List.
