First Semester On Google Glass - How The Newhouse School At Syracuse University Used Wearable Technology To Learn About Social Media and Entrepreneurship

First Semester On Google Glass - How The Newhouse School At Syracuse University Used Wearable GlassTechnology To Learn About Social Media and Entrepreneurship

I am a beta tester for Google Glass and have been wearing Glass almost daily since July 2013. This fall, the social media classes (#NewhouseSM4 and #NewhouseSM6) I teach at the Newhouse School integrated Glass into the classroom. While some debate the use of wearable technology and social media in the classroom, we brought Glass into the classroom as a learning platform. Students developed ideas for Glass Apps using social tools to collaborate in teams. As part of idea development, they pitched ideas first to classmates, next to a panel of experts, and then took their ideas on social media to see whose ideas got the most traction. This allowed them to crowdsource the best ideas. Hootsuitecertified

The students did all of this while learning about using social media professionally and earned HootsuiteProfessional Social Media Certification as part of an innovative partnership pioneered with the Newhouse School and Hootsuite. The students used their professional social media savvy and social networks to share ideas, collaborate online and promote their Glass App startup ideas.

You may see the winning app ideas on Kickstarter as these students have learned about promotion Preview-badge-funded-d851cc18ee427ab26714029eedb50663& entrepreneurship throughout the class. As their professor, I am very impressed with everything these students have done. From the very start, student ideas came from across the spectrum and represented  something they would like to see in a new tech product, ideas that related to their own personal experiences, as well as their professional interests. As the semester progressed and new apps became available on Glass, we even saw apps similar to the student ideas. Even as the apps showed up, students adapted their own ideas to distinguish between the available apps and their own app idea. This required the students to respond quickly and adapt to changing circumstances.

Check out the student Glass App ideas below after the feature video from Mashable explaining the process.  After you've checked out their great Glass App ideas, please join me in congratulating them on all they have accomplished and done over the course of the semester.
